Happy St. Patrick’s Day Parade to everyone!

Peter Byrne has been named Grand Marshal of the 23rd Annual Charlotte St. Patrick’s Day Parade, to be held on March 16, 2019 Founder & Parade Executive Director Linda Hart announced.

Peter is the current President of Charlotte Irish Connection, a non-profit organization that promotes Irish cultural activities within the greater Charlotte area. He is also a member of Charlotte’s James Connolly Gaelic Football and Hurling Club. The club was recently voted “North American Club of the Year” by its peers through-out North America.

“Mr. Byrne has been named Grand Marshal of the 2019 Charlotte St. Patrick’s Day Parade”, Founder & Parade Executive Director Linda Hart announced.

“It will be an inspiration and honor for Irish women and men and for all of those who celebrate our traditions and values of St. Patrick to march behind Peter Byrne who has worked for Ireland and it’s culture in so many ways.”

He and his wife Irene retired from New York to Charlotte five years ago where their son Conor, his wife Sarah and their three grand children also reside. Since coming to Charlotte Peter has been an active participant in Irish cultural activities and is now heavily involved with others (in the wider Irish and Irish/American community) in their efforts to establish an Irish/American Center for all of the people of Charlotte to participate in and enjoy.” 

Peter hails from Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland. His family later moved to Dublin where he and his four siblings were educated. He qualified as a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (U.K.) and worked for 10 years in finance and accounting before joining the Irish Government’s Industrial Development Authority (IDA Ireland) in 1974.

His career of 23 years with Ireland’s Industrial Development Authority (IDA) included two terms (13 years) as Vice President Marketing based in IDA Ireland’s New York Office. His latter assignment involved the promotion of the then emerging Dublin International Financial Services Center that now employs over15,000. Peter retired from IDA Ireland in 2001 and ended his career as a financial executive with the Archdiocese of New York.

Peter will be the parade’s 23rd Grand Marshal in a long line of prestigious members of the community & beyond. Please make him welcome.
